Working Together
Hell, there are no rules here...
we're trying to accomplish something.
~ Thomas Edison
In the Beginning...
My relationship with a client begins with an exploratory conversation, usually by phone. You tell me what you need—I listen and ask questions. If I feel that I can help you, and you feel that way too, I will send you a proposal/agreement.
The Proposal/Agreement
The Proposal/Agreement is a document that lays out as clearly as possible the nature of the assignment—its scope, scale, goals, the fee, a schedule for payment, and the rights and responsibilities of client and designer. When the proposal is accepted and signed by all it becomes an agreement. A deposit accompanies the signing of the agreement.
Design is not the narrow application
of formal skills, it is a way of thinking.
~ Chris Pullman
What Comes Next
Once we have agreed to work together, the next step for me is a deeper engagement with your project. If I am creating a website and/or a business identity and promotional materials, I will undertake an extensive exploration of your vision—how you see yourself and how you want others to see you, what you want to accomplish, what you can offer, and how your products or services fit into a larger context.
This process is useful and illuminating to all parties. If the project is something other than business marketing (like an illustration or poster), I will do whatever research is needed to prepare myself for inspiration and action.

Fees
I don't charge by the hour. I think about hours when I set fees, but the truth is that once I take on a job, I do the job, however long it takes. I will go as far as necessary to get my projects to a place that feels right. Value derives from attention and commitment.
What I am offering in exchange for money is not a specific amount of time; it's an activity. I'm getting paid to make my client's concerns my own, to inspire and clarify vision, and then use my skills to solve problems.
