Lamb & Lion Studio is a one-woman art and design studio. As a freelancer, I offer my services as an illustrator, web and print designer, copywriter and marketing consultant.
My aim as a marketing designer is to help you identify the heart of what you offer, and then, working closely together, find the best way to translate that understanding into vivid, eloquent communication. Having a range of skills allows me to craft creative marketing solutions using words and pictures as complementary tools of expression.
Above all, I function as an artist. I see the big picture and I see the details as parts of an evolving whole. The best clients for me are people who care deeply about what they are doing and the world we live in.
“No tears in the writer; no tears in the reader.”
Design matters when it works, and it works when it matters. You can’t fake it. As Robert Frost said, “No tears in the writer; no tears in the reader.” This is also true of good design. No tears or laughter in the artist/designer; no tears or laughter in the audience.
We crave authenticity, we crave meaning, we crave fun and excitement as well as safety and security. We want to feel touched, moved, understood. We want our problems solved.
What actually solves problems is not a magic potion or bullet; it’s creative space in which we are able see a bigger picture with more options. We humans are at our best when we are led not by fear but by hearts and minds opening to beauty, thoughtful intelligence, humor and encouragement.
Here are some of the skills and experience I offer:
Clear, Creative Design & Illustration
Successful design—design that communicates meaning—is more than information arranged prettily on a page or a website; it is a compelling story told in words and pictures that shows why a place, person, organization, project, idea or event is valuable, desirable, useful, maybe even essential.
To illustrate is to SHOW. I think of everything I do as a form of illustration. We live in a richly visual age. People can grasp content easily and quickly through pictures and text arranged in a visual way. Too much text deflects attention. Words need to be crafted with as much care as images for their visceral as well as their conceptual meaning.
No matter what the medium or device—a piece of paper, lots of pieces of paper stuck together, screen, tablet, smartphone—effective design is a marriage of form and content informed byvision, meaning, purpose and relevance.
Form follows function – that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.
~ Frank Lloyd Wright
The expression of a message flows from an understanding of what needs to be expressed and why. Developing that vision through active listening, questioning and collaboration is one of the keys to powerful and effective content. Another key is using words with creative precision in order to bypass cliché and take the high road to authenticity, caring, and reaching out to others.
People need stories more than bread itself. They tell us how to live, and why.
My aim as a marketing designer is to help you identify the heart of what you offer, and then, working closely together, find the best way to translate that understanding into vivid, eloquent communication.
Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
